On Wednesday, January 7th, the Board of Health met for the first time in 2015. On their agenda were a number of new issues, as well as some wrapping up the previous year.

Their first and only hearing of the night was for Ko Restaurant. Sean McCabe of Ko Restaurant appeared before the board requesting a variance from 105 CMR 590.000 Food Code, to allow the restaurant to use vinegar as a preservative for sushi. Citing a similar case in which the board approved this variance for Dynasty restaurant, the board approved his variance. Also part of new business was the signing of food permit fee waivers for nonprofits in town for the new year; the board approved all nonprofits up for renewal.

The board then turned to old business, looking first at the public health administrator position soon to be listed. They reviewed salary ranges for the position, and discussed recent talks with Norman Khumalo on how the position should be advertised. They finalized a letter to be sent out to advertise for the position, and expressed their wishes for the position to be made public soon. They also looked at the year 2014 in review, in which they recalled major decisions of the past year, including modifications to pre-existing rules regarding septic systems and remodeling or adding additional rooms to a home.

The Board of Health meets next on January 26th.
