Hopkinton Public Library Foundation, Inc. (HPLF) has received another exciting boost in its fundraising via the Hopkinton Weight Loss Challenge. With the help of 167 participants, “Lose it for the Library” raised $2,500 for the planned restoration, renovation and expansion of Hopkinton Public Library.

CrossFit Resilience (CFR) in Hopkinton generously ran the Weight Loss Challenge, a month-long program encouraging regular exercise and healthier food choices. The male and female winners were Ted Barker-Hook and Katie Cox, who each succeeded in shedding the largest percentage of weight. For their efforts, each will receive $1,252.50, and a free one month of membership at CFR. Coincidentally, both winners are teachers! At the time that the checks were presented to the winners, Ted explained that he planned to use the money to buy a new dishwasher for his family, and also contribute funds to school in the village of Caberete, Dominican Republic, where he volunteered last year. Katie will put her winnings toward additional education, as she is currently working toward a Masters degree in Special Education at LaSell College.

The results from the challenge were impressive! Of the 167 people who signed up, 122 completed the weigh in and weigh out and lost an average of 8.9 pounds!

“Hopkinton Public Library Foundation wishes to thank all the participants, the staff of CFR, and especially Drew Carnase, owner of CFR, whose dedicated efforts made the challenge a great success for the Library as well as all the participants,” says Laura Barry, Chair of HPLF. “It is amazing what can be accomplished when a community-focused business, such as CrossFit Resilience, develops a program that so positively benefits so many people!”
