Man Drowns in Whitehall

On Saturday April 18, 2015, at approximately 11:36 pm, Hopkinton Police received a 911 call reporting suspicious activity at their residence. A second 911 call was received immediately after the initial call, reporting three people were in a canoe on Lake Whitehall and the canoe had overturned spilling all three people into Lake Whitehall.

Upon the arrival of Hopkinton Police and Fire, two people were found on shore after swimming out of the lake. The third person was not immediately located. A search of the lake and shore area did not locate the person, identified only as a 23 year old male from Franklin.

The other two persons, identified only as a 24 year old male from Franklin and a 22 year old female from Franklin were transported to area hospitals for injuries, believed at this time to be non-life threatening.

A search helicopter from the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing Unit, as well as dive team members from local fire departments assisted with the water search.

At approximately 9:35 am this morning, the body of 23 year old Nicholas Horton of Franklin, Mass. was recovered from the water. His body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Worcester. This incident is being investigated by Detectives of the Hopkinton Police Department and Massachusetts State Police.
