The National Weather Service (NWS) in Taunton has issued an updated forecast concerning the potential winter storm this Saturday night and Sunday. A briefing slide prepared by the NWS may be viewed at: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/18185487/NWS%20Taunton%20February%2021%202012.pptx . (The briefing slide is copied below, but it may be easier to read via link.) Please note that considerable uncertainty still exists in the forecast, particularly concerning the locations of the rain/snow line and the amount of snowfall. Currently the NWS forecasts that the areas to the north of the Massachusetts Turnpike and away from the coast have the highest risk for heavy snow (6” to 12” or more), and that coastal communities may experience minor coastal flooding and beach erosion. Additionally, power outages are a possibility due to high winds and wet, heavy snow.
