Middle School Principal Alan Keller to Run Boston Marathon

By contributor,

The Hopkinton Education Foundation today announced, the “Run a Principal Out of Town” (RAPOOT) fundraising program. This program, the first of its kind, is a collaborative fundraising effort supporting education, community, health and athletics. The Hopkinton Education Foundation and the Hopkinton Public Schools are coming together with the support of the 26.2 Foundation to sponsor Hopkinton Middle School principal, Alan Keller, to run the 116th Boston Marathon on April 16, 2012.

The Hopkinton Education Foundation will use the funds raised from this program for grants that promote innovation, increase students’ success in the classroom and motivate students to become lifelong learners.

“What could be better than to Run a Principal Out of Town?” quipped Jonathan Landman, Superintendent of Hopkinton Schools. “But seriously: what a positive, imaginative way for students, parents and the entire community to support our schools. The historic Boston Marathon, taking place right here in our own backyard, is a great vehicle to support the Hopkinton Public Schools and to promote health and fitness. Students, parents, the community and staff can come together to cheer for Mr. Keller, who is truly going the distance on behalf of the students!”

As part of RAPOOT, the Hopkinton Education Foundation, in conjunction with Hopkinton schools, will launch several programs involving health and fitness and education. The Hopkinton Education Foundation will work closely with the schools, local businesses and sponsors to make these programs a success while at the same time supporting Mr. Keller and raising funds for Hopkinton public schools.

“The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon, ranked as one of the world's best-known road racing events and something the community looks forward to every year,“ said Di Collins, President of the Hopkinton Education Foundation. “Since Hopkinton is known as the starting point for the Boston Marathon, this fundraising program really hits home. Thanks to the support of the 26.2 Foundation, we are confident this program will raise significant funds for our schools while at the same time promoting the importance of community involvement, education, health and athletics.”

“The 26.2 Foundation is happy to be involved in the Run a Principal Out of Town program, since Hopkinton has become synonymous with the Boston Marathon and one of our missions is to promote and support the sport of marathoning,” said Michael R. Neece, President of the 26.2 Foundation. “Also, the 26.2 Foundation is committed to promoting education, fitness and health and this program is doing just that by involving the whole community in Mr. Keller’s commitment to run the Boston Marathon.”
