FRAMINGHAM, MA – Twenty-three members of the Keefe Technical School and Marian High School cooperative football team recently shared their football skills and team spirit with youngsters at the Framingham Boys and Girls Club.

The Mustangs, who received approval in March from the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) to merge and become a co-operative football program, held a two-day conditioning clinic from 4-6 pm on May 29 and May 30 at the Pearl Street club’s gym.

“It was a great way for our athletes to kick off the inception of their new team and the upcoming season. The clinic provided an opportunity for the athletes from the two high schools to get to know one another, work together as a team, and at the same time reach out to youth in the Framingham community,” noted Keefe Tech Athletic Director Chris Kane.

About 30 boys and girls, ranging in age from 9-14 years old, participated in ladder drills, bag drills, footwork, ball handling, agility stations and other drills under the direction of the high school athletes. Mustangs’ head coach Rich Gunnell, former Boston College star wide receiver and Kansas City Chiefs player, along with assistant coaches Harry LaSage, former football coach at Ayer High School, and Don Marini, former Keefe Tech head football coach, supervised the conditioning sessions.

“It was outstanding to walk into the gym and see the kids’ enthusiasm and a good percentage of girls participating. Having the football players work with our kids, cheering them on was just great. The high school students have such a positive influence on our youngsters and I hope we can work together again in the future,” noted Chris Duane, Senior Vice President of Operations, Boys and Girls Club of MetroWest.
