Patriots vs Jets Preview

With a month of football in the history books, the New England Patriots will travel to the Meadowlands to play their division rival New York Jets on Sunday. Both teams are currently tied for first place in the AFC East and a win on Sunday could have a momentous effect on how each team's season pans out.

It has been a rough start for the Patriots to begin the season. The Patriots defense is ranked among the worst in NFL and have allowed a multitude of running backs to run the ball with ease. Several injuries have also hindered the Patriots, most notably being WR Julian Edelman and LB Donta Hightower both having sustained leg injuries early in the season.

The one shining part on the Patriots team however has been QB Tom Brady. He has thrown for 11 touchdowns and over 1,700 yards. Even at age 40, it doesn’t seem that Brady has lost his stride. I expect Tom Brady to have a comeback game after a sluggish performance against Tampa Bay. The key matchup to watch for this game will be the combination of Tom Brady and WR Chris Hogan. With Edelman out for the year, Hogan has seemed to be Brady’s go to option in games and it has shown in the numbers he is putting up. He is currently tied for second, behind only WR Jordy Nelson of the Packers, in most receptions caught in the NFL.

On the other side, the New York Jets have seemed to surprised a myriad of people across the country. After starting 0-2, they have won three straight games and are hoping to keep the momentum rolling.

The X factor in this game will be the Jets front 7 vs the Patriots running game. After trading Sheldon Richardson to the Seattle Seahawks, the Jets defensive line has not been the formidable force they once were. Expect Head Coach Bill Belichick to stick with the run game throughout the match and allow the RB’s to make a big play.
