Yesterday Rep. Carolyn Dykema (D-Holliston) joined her House colleagues in voting to bring additional funding to local communities for road and bridge repair, including projects for the Town of Hopkinton.

“Transportation infrastructure is vitally important both for our growing economy in Metrowest and for our quality of life,” said Dykema. “I’m pleased we were able to include provisions in this bond bill that will allow us to access state funding for important local projects.”

Included in the bill is a provision that will extend a $1.75 million appropriation for downtown improvements in Hopkinton that was included in a 2008 bond bill.

The bill also includes a $100,000 authorization to study the feasibility of allowing limited truck access directly to the Mass Pike from Rte. 135. This project has the potential to decrease the number of trucks from the E.L. Harvey facility that pass through local roadways in Hopkinton and Westborough.

This project specific funding is in addition to the $200 million already appropriated for distribution directly to all cities and towns through the state’s chapter 90 program. Hopkinton will receive $639,459 in local transportation funding through this program. The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.
