Scott R. Whalen, 45

Scott R. Whalen of Chelmsford, formerly of Hopkinton, a vice president of advertising for the Boston Herald, died Friday at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston from injuries suffered in a car accident.

He was 45.

Born in Framingham, Mr. Whalen was raised and educated in Hopkinton.

He graduated from Hopkinton Junior-Senior High School in 1984 and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1988.

Beginning in 2001, Mr. Whalen served as vice president of advertising for the Boston Herald.

He was an avid sports enthusiast, although his greatest joy in life was being a dad to his three loving daughters.

Mr. Whalen enjoyed coaching his girls on their sports teams and spending summer vacations on Martha’s Vineyard with his family.

Mr. Whalen is survived by his wife of 18 years, Lynn (Walker); three daughters, Kylie, Lilie and Caroline; and his parents, Richard G. of Natick and Linda Lee (Berry) Soby of Dennis.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Irene Parish, Carlisle.

Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
