HOPKINTON, MA (May 10, 2021) - Following the resolution of the gas leak at the
Main Street at Cedar Street intersection earlier today, Town officials met with the
contractor’s representatives to discuss what happened and how to prevent similar
issues moving forward. Also present were representatives from Eversource Gas and
MassDOT.

The leak, reported at 9:41am, was repaired by Eversource at 12:25 pm. Review of the
scene showed an old structure in the ground as the cause of the leak. The structure
was not tied to the gas line or related to the Main Street Corridor Project.
The situation was handled efficiently by both the Hopkinton Fire and Police
Departments and by Eversource Gas who were onsite to repair the leak.

“We now understand why and how this happened,” said Town Manager Norman
Khumalo. “We have learned from the situation and how to prevent similar issues
moving forward.”
