Second Electric Manhole to be Installed

Installation of the first electric manhole vault was completed ahead of schedule and work on the second electric manhole may begin on Wednesday, October 20 and if not, then it will begin on Thursday, October 21. The work will take place between Mt. Auburn and Mayhew Street and is anticipated to take up to 3-5 days to complete.

Please see the attached technical plan outlining the work area (highlighted in green).

Draft Traffic Management Plans for utility vault work areas between 85/135 and Commonwealth Ave. are available on the project website.
This work will require a lane shift to maintain two lanes of traffic. Police details will be present 24-hours a day as the work will require several days to complete while the excavation pit remains open with jersey barriers installed around the open excavation. Work hours during the day will remain 7:00am 3:00pm but may be extended if necessary. Temporary lighting is proposed overnight for the protection of detail officers and for vehicle safety travelling through the shifted lane overnight.

The plan provides two lanes of traffic through the work area delineated by cones or barrels. There may be the need to temporarily go down to one lane of alternating traffic for short periods of time.
