From Hank Allessio:

The Senior Center mess hall will serve a special breakfast for Veterans on Friday, 1 February 2013, at or before 0900 hours. The menu is highlighted by chipped beef. For those on delicate diets, the beef is optional; there's lots of other good chow: eggs, bacon, hash, home fries, biscuits, and plenty of coffee. Invite your friends who don't receive this email.

There's nothing new to report on the Photo Gallery. Sorry for the false hopes of the past several months. 455 photos stand ready to salute you on the HCAM website. Why not visit some of your friends? Veterans Remember has been active. An interesting conversation with Jack Cahill has been posted. You can watch it here. Frank Chase should be posted soon. In recent weeks Alicia Shambo (USN) and Ron Remillard (USA) have been taped. All of us in Hopkinton -- Vets or not -- should treat ourselves to the stories that have been recorded. It's a shame every Vet's story isn't documented. For the most part all stories are interesting and enjoyable, bringing to bear the width and depth of military experiences. In some instances viewers such as we will grow in appreciation of the "investments" that have been made by Hopkintonians who have worn the uniform, www.hcam.tv/veteransremember . More Vets are being sought to have a conversation with Dick Gooding in front of the HCAM lens. Please step forward, or recruit one of your buddies.

Save the date: 22 February 2013, Iwo Jima Day. The parade will step-off at 1130 hours from Faneuil Hall; a service will commence at noon in front of the State House; an official ceremony will be at 1230 hours inside the State House; and, a collation afterward. Mike Whalen has answers to your questions.

The free breakfast question is about Harold "Pie" Traynor, a Hall of Fame MLB 3rd baseman for the Pirates who was born on Grant Street in Framingham, MA. What one statement is true?

  • Had more career triples than Stan Musial
  • Hit for the cycle 3 times
  • Seven seasons with more than 100 rbi
  • Higher career batting average than Ted Williams
  • Anyone with transportation difficulties can call Sally Almy before Wednesday, 2 January 2013, 508 497-9730.

The Pledge of Allegiance and the blessing of our meal will be led by members of the American Legion McDonough-Carlberg Post 202.

    See you Friday. Out.
