Video: Retiring Hopkinton Police Officer, Thomas Griffin Praised at Selectmen Meeting

Chief Lee and the Board of Selectmen honored Hopkinton Police Officer, Thomas Griffin. Officer Griffin will retire after 38 years of service to the Hopkinton Police Department in late July. Chief, Edward Lee listed off some of the many accomplishments of Officer Griffin including; FTO (Field Training Officer), working with the Narcan program, serving as a liaison for the regional jail diversion program, business and licensing inspecting, fleet maintenance, working with the department of mental health in multiple towns and Officer Griffin is also part of a regional crisis intervention team helping Officers affected by difficult situations.

"I could go on with the amount of duties but we don't have enough time" said Chief Lee before complimenting how tough Officer Griffin is. "They broke the mold when they made something like this, he's one tough guy." Chief Lee then told a story about Officer Griffin complaining of shoulder pain and after much encouragement to see a doctor, he found out his shoulder was broken. After thanking Officer Griffin for his many years of service to the town, the Board unanimously approved Chief Lee's request to keep Thomas Griffin around as a "special officer". Officer Griffin will stay with the department for duties such as traffic directing and will be available for advice.
