Wake Up and Smell the Poetry - Saturday, January 21st

On Saturday, January 21st at 10:30 a.m., HCAM Studios will host the first Wake Up and Smell the Poetry program of the new year with Boston poet Dan Tobin, Boston Storyteller Karen Given and Metrowest duo, Carrie Rowan and Adrienne Fawkes. Tobin is author of six books of poetry, is also recipient of "The Discover/The Nation Award", "The Robert Penn Warren Award", The Robert Frost Fellowship, The Katherine Bakeless Nason Prize and creative writing fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. Karen Given is a writer/blogger, MassMouth Storyteller and a reporter and producer for WBUR and NPR’s Only A Game. Carrie Rowan and Adrienne Fawkes as duo are known as Stefilia's Stone. Together, Carrie Rowan and Adrienne Fawkes create a dynamic display of original music infusing classical piano style with finger picked guitar, smothered with lyrical finesse, served up with a splash of indie, adult contemporary, and modern folk with a pinch of funk. An open mic line-up for poetry, story and song will follow. This live program takes place at HCAM Studios and is filmed for later viewing on cable television . Karen Given

Dan Tobin
Daniel Tobin is the author of six books of poems, Where the World is Made, Double Life, The Narrows, Second Things, Belated Heavens (winner of the Massachusetts Book Award in Poetry) and The Net (forthcoming, 2014) along with the critical studies Awake in America and Passage to the Center. He is the editor of The Book of Irish American Poetry from the Eighteenth Century to the Present.
