Water Main Break on Main Street Shuts Down Water Service

Due to a water main break on Main Street Friday afternoon, water service to the Main Street area will be interrupted for several hours until repairs can be made. A CodeRED alert from Interim Police Chief Wallace went out to inform residents and businesses.

"Good Afternoon, This Is Interim Police Chief Chuck Wallace calling to advise of a water main break on Main St. Due to this break, water service in the Main St. area will be interrupted for several hours. We appreciate your patience while the break is repaired and service is restored."

Dykema to Discuss Water Policy at Planning Board on Monday

Representative Carolyn Dykema is scheduled to attend Hopkinton's Planning Board meeting on Monday, August 12 to discuss Water/Storm Water policy. Dykema is first on the agenda at 7:30PM in Room 211 at Town Hall. According to an article in the MetroWest Daily News, Planning Board Chairman Ken Weismantel is concerned that water withdrawal limits set by the state are making it more difficult for Hopkinton to attract business and other large developments.

West Nile Virus Found in Nearby Holliston

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced Wednesday that West Nile virus (WNV) was detected in a mosquito collected in Holliston. According to a press release from Ann McCobb, Holliston’s Health Director, crews from the Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project (CMMCP) sprayed on Wednesday and are planning continued mosquito control efforts.

West nile virus (WNV) is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito, but by taking precautions, people can help to protect themselves.

Tickets for Architectural Walking Tours of Hopkinton Center to be held on Saturday, August 17 and Sunday, August 18 will be available on Saturday, August 10 between 9am - 2pm at the Friends of the 300th Anniversary bottle & can drive in Colella's parking lot.

Price: $5.00

Tours are 11 am and 2pm and are sponsored by the Historic District Commission with all proceeds going to the 300th Anniversary Celebration.

Town Hall Phone Numbers Affected by Provider Outage

At 10:30 am today, Town Hall became aware that some town numbers were reporting non working number errors on incoming calls.

Public safety numbers are unaffected.

The Town's telephone service provider, Windstream, is currently reporting some area outages that are affecting Hopkinton.

The service ticket has been escalated t and everything possible is being done to expedite a return to normal service.

More Roadwork Underway This Week

Crack sealing work will begin on Tuesday August 6 on the following streets. One lane of traffic will be open at all times. Work is expected to take about seven days. Work hours will be 7am – 4pm.

Bullmoose Run - From Cul-De-Sac (S) to Cul-De-Sac (N)

Chestnut St - From 300' E of Mckay St to 550' E of Smith Rd

Main Street Detour Returns

As the downtown water main project continues, a secoind Main Street detour will go into effect starting this Thursday, August 8th. All eastbound Main Street traffic will be detoured onto Pleasant Street. Westbound traffic will not be detoured on will flow onto Main Street.

Police Officers will be assisting motorists. Detour signs will be posted so motorists are able to drive to the downtown businesses which will remain open during the detour.

Spilka Supports Yellen to Head Federal Reserve

In a letter to President Obama this morning, congressional candidate Karen Spilka urged the President to abandon the potential nomination of Larry Summers and instead nominate Janet Yellen.

Karen wrote, “Secretary Summers has benefited from the revolving door between government and Wall Street. Each time he has left government or public service, he has rushed into the arms of the giants of the financial industry. According to the Wall Street Journal, he is currently being paid millions as a consultant for Citibank and the hedge fund D.E. Shaw.”
