Hopkinton Public Library Welcomes SpeakOUT Boston for a Pride Month Event

The panel of community members will share personal stories and talk about how they’ve grown to understand, accept, and take pride in their sexual and/or gender identities. After the presentation, they encourage questions from the audience.

Beth Lavoie, 70

Beth Lavoie passed away peacefully on June 19, 2021, lovingly surrounded by her family at her home of 41 years in Hopkinton, MA. Born on March 2, 1951 in Syracuse, New York, Beth was the first of five children of the late Dolores (Reynolds) and Edward Burke. She and her late husband, Leo Lavoie, were married for 36 years.

HHS Girls Hoops Wins Community Service Challenge

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) is excited to announced the Hopkinton High School girls’ basketball team as the winner of the 2020-21 MIAA Community Service Challenge! Members of the MIAA Student Advisory Committee reviewed the 68 incredible submissions before selecting the winner.

The Hopkinton High School girls’ basketball team executed a plan to serve dinner at a homeless shelter, Hotel Grace, in Worcester, Massachusetts. Eleven student-athletes met up to prepare the meal, drove the food to Worcester and helped serve it to those in need.

Sandra Lea Dow, 76

Sandra Lea Dow, 76, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Milford Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Charles Dow, to whom she was married for 52 years. Born in Amsterdam, NY she was the daughter of the late John and Sadie (Wojnar) Guzielek.

Sandra attended Syracuse University and received her Master’s Degree in Fine Arts Education from Assumption College . She met her husband in Boston, then settled down in Hopkinton where they raised two children.

Karen L. Sherman, 53

Karen L. Sherman, 53 of Goochland, Virginia and formerly of Hopkinton, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021. Born in Framingham, she was the daughter of the late Shirley (Swain) and Bruce Creswell Sr. She was the former wife of Ralph Sherman Jr. of Rhode Island.

Karen was a member of the class of 1986 at Keefe Tech in Framingham. She enjoyed horseback riding, going to Provincetown, and baking cakes for her children’s birthdays and other special occasions.

Hopkinton Democrats hosted caucus for the Mass Democrat State Convention
