Hopkinton Roadwork Notice: August 14, 2019

Roadwork has been scheduled for the following streets. All work is weather pending and dates may need to be moved forward as needed. Work hours will be approximately 7am-5pm.

8/16 - Amherst Rd, Beach St, Duffield Rd, Knoll Rd, Lakeshore Dr, Third Rd & Yale Rd. Asphalt leveling course.
8/19-8/21 - Amherst Rd, Beach St, Duffield Rd, Knoll Rd, LakeShore Dr, Third Rd & Yale Rd. Adjust structures.
8/19-8/20 - Chestnut St - Asphalt top course paving.
One lane of traffic will be open. Please expect delays and seek alternate routes when possible.

Hopkinton Planning Board Vacancy Announcement

The Planning Board currently has one vacancy and the Town is seeking candidates for the position. The term of office will expire at the May, 2020 election.
The Planning Board is an elected board, whose members serve five year terms. The establishment of municipal Planning Boards is authorized by Mass. General Law, Chapter 41, Section 81A. Among its many diverse roles, the Board is charged with the following duties, which are contained in the General Laws and the Hopkinton Zoning and General Bylaws:

George R. Desmond, 89

George R. Desmond of Framingham, formerly of Sherborn, Massachusetts passed away
peacefully on August 13, 2019. He was the husband of Alice B. Desmond to whom he
was married for 59 years. Born in Framingham in 1930 he was the son of the late George
R. Desmond, Sr. and Kathryn Orzeck Desmond. He graduated from St Stephen School,
Framingham, Boston College High School in 1947 and Boston College in 1951. He
started law school at Boston College and then served in the U.S. Army 66th Counter

Irene N. (Snyer) Sands, 83

Irene N. (Snyer) Sands, 83, of Winchester, NH and formerly of Hopkinton, MA passed away Monday, August 12, 2019. Born and raised in Hopkinton, she was the daughter of the late Irene “Sue” (Davis) and Peter Snyer. She was the wife of 37 years to the late Theodore “Ted” Sands.

Hopkinton High School Hires New Athletic Director

Hopkinton High School has hired former Foxborough High School A.D. Rich Cormier to take over as Athletic Director. Former Athletic Director, Dee King recently stepped down due to family reasons. Dee had been the Hopkinton A.D. since 2016.

Rich Cormier worked the last 3 years as the Foxborough HS Athletic Director and before that coached 11 seasons of Boys Basketball at Norwood High School. Cormier will start his new role in Hopkinton towards the end of the month.

Weather Trends in Hopkinton: August 5th-11th

According to the DPW weather station, the highest temperature reached in Hopkinton August 5th through 11th was 86 degrees, the lowest was 52 degrees. Average temperature during the week in Hopkinton was 70.3 degrees. Humidity was at an average of 74%, the peak was 97% while the lowest was 32%. Wind Speed averaged 1.7 MPH, while reaching a high of 9 MPH. Rain accumulated 1.70 inches last week in Hopkinton. Hopkinton Public Library Expands Hours

Hopkinton Public Library will be open for more hours this fall. Beginning Monday, September
9, the library will be open from 10 am to 9 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and
Thursdays; from 10 am to 6 pm on Fridays; and from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturdays. With the new
schedule, the library will be open a total of 58 hours per week, up from 50 hours per week under
the current schedule.

Deadline Approaching for Hopkinton Senior Tax Relief

The Town of Hopkinton reminds seniors that the August 31 application deadline for a newly approved tax relief program tied to the state “circuit breaker” tax benefit is rapidly approaching.

A home rule petition to the Legislature was enacted into law in 2018 allowing Hopkinton to offer property tax relief to seniors who meet state circuit breaker requirements and the Select Board may make tax reduction awards of between $550 and $2,200 per household, after the Board of Assessors determines the number of qualified applicants.
