Lawrence “Larry” Marshall, 94

Lawrence “Larry” Marshall, 94, of Hopkinton, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham, following a period of declining health. Born in Mexico, Maine, he was the son of the late Marion (Smith) and Lawrence Marshall. He was the husband of Ida T. (D’Innocenzo) Marshall.

Larry was retired from Wellesley College where he was the Supervisor of Custodial Services. He enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S., Europe and Canada. Hunting and fishing trips were always full of adventure and camaraderie along with good buddy, Larry Carden and the boys.

Hopkinton Family Day Public Planning Meeting March 7th

The second meeting for the 2017 Hopkinton Family Day will be held March 7 at 7 PM at High School Cafeteria. We will be coordinating the ideas and suggestions of Town groups and organizations. Groups or individuals who did not attend the previous meeting are welcome to participate in this organizational meeting. Together we can make the Hopkinton Family Day happen. Please join us.

Video: Educate Hopkinton Hosted Public Forum Regarding Traffic & Pedestrians

Educate Hopkinton hosted their 2nd spotlight forum on Monday (2/6), last October their forum concentrated on the town’s water, this year with many road construction projects on the horizon in town, the forum concentrated on traffic and pedestrians. Panelists included Hopkinton Police Chief, Edward Lee, Department of Public Works Director, John Westerling and Town Director of Land Use & Town Operations, Elaine Lazarus. The panelists received a wide array of questions and comments from E-hop and community members in attendance about various roads and roadwork projects in town.

Winter Weather Closings Across Town for Thursday, February 9th

The Town of Hopkinton has issued the following message: "Hopkinton Public Schools are closed today, Thur 2/9/17 and all afternoon and evening activities are cancelled.  Town Hall, Senior Center, Library, and all other non-essential personnel staffed locations are also closed on Thur 2/9/17.  All Board and Committee public meetings for 2/9/17 are cancelled.  Trash pickup for Thur & Fri is delayed 1 day.  Pickup normally scheduled for Thur will be picked up Fri.  Pickup normally scheduled for Friday will be picked up Sat."

Single Again Meeting February 17 to Focus on Community Service

The February Single Again meeting being held at 7:00 p.m. on February 17 will feature a brainstorming session on a future community service project for the group. The Single Again meeting is open to the public and will take place at the Parish Hall of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 61 Wood Street in Hopkinton.

Single Again is a support group for people who, though divorce, death, or other circumstances, are single again. It is not a dating group, and while it is a faith-based ministry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, it is open to everyone.

Hopkinton Library "Teen Crafternoon" rescheduled for Feb 14th

The teen crafternoon originally scheduled for Thursday, February 9 has been rescheduled to Tuesday, February 14 at 2:30 pm.

Registration is required; contact 508-497-9777 or athie@hopkintonma.gov to sign up.

Students in grades 6-12 are invited to participate in creating something new for themselves or as a gift. Snacks will be provided. We are celebrating the arrival of our new telescope, so the craft this month will be related to astronomy!

Greyhound Friends Renovates to Meet State Requirements

Greyhound Friends is renovating their dog kennels to meet the requirements of the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources. A message on the Greyhound Friends website explains the current situation: "Greyhound Friends Inc. is facing an unexpected challenge at our Hopkinton, Massachusetts Shelter. We are being required by the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (DAR) to replace 15 year old kennels which house the dogs individually.

Video: Hillers Hockey Senior Night 2016-2017 Season

Hopkinton Hillers Hockey celebrated Senior Night prior to an 11-2 dominate win over Bellingham Saturday Night (2/4). After a Monday victory, the Hillers Hockey team is at the top of the TVL with 14 wins, 0 losses and a tie. Seniors this year include: Spencer Abbott, Tim Bloomer, Spencer Coveney, Nick Horgan, Tim McGrath, Will Pickens, Zack Rogers, Everett Rolph, Nick Temple and JH Vokey. Bill Goebel of Westborough Selected for Foundation’s Invitational Boston Marathon Number

The Hopkinton Education Foundation is proud to announce Bill Goebel, a local family and businessman, as the winner of the invitational number for the 121st Boston Marathon.

Mr. Goebel has committed to raising $5,000 for the Hopkinton Education Foundation, however has high hopes that he can raise more, as he has successfully fundraised in the past. Other organizations he has fundraised include Special Olympics and Dana Farber, so Bill felt that he wanted to support a local education charity for his first Boston Marathon.
