HMS Soccer Team Opens Season with Victory Over Ashland

The Middle School boys' soccer team opened their season with a 2-1 victory versus Ashland. Ethan Champlin opened the scoring in the first half with a goal assisted by Danny Andrews. Ashland tied the game 1-1. About midway into the 2nd half Danny Andrews scored the game winner assisted by Rex Lind. Playing particularly well defensively for the Hillers was John Mastrangelo, Justin Wade and Jack Varner. Patrick Crantz earned the victory in goal. The boys play in Mendon today after school. Their next home game is Friday on Field 5.

Hopkinton Cultural Council Seeks Funding Proposals

Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs are due October 17, 2016.

The Hopkinton Cultural Council has set an October 17, 2016 postmark deadline for organizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants that support cultural activities in the community.

According to Council spokesperson Barbara Timko, these grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in Hopkinton -- including exhibits, festivals, short-term artist residencies or performances in schools, workshops and lectures.

According to the DPW weather station, the highest temperature reached in Hopkinton last week was 89 degrees, the lowest was 43.5 Average temperature during the week in Hopkinton was 65.9 degrees. Humidity was at an average of 73.4%, the peak was 97% while the lowest was 34%. Wind Speed averaged 1.8 MPH, while reaching a high of 7 MPH. Many local artists and groups were on hand for the 42nd annual Hopkinton Polyarts festival. The packed event took place on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. HCAM news caught up with some of the artists at the event including: Elise Kiscla who was selling homemade crafts to benefit Project Just Because, Chinese Brush Artist, Vartus Varadian, Painter, Dyrick Schaefer and local birdhouse maker, Frank Gross.
