You’ve experienced it dozens if not hundreds of times, when a phrase or an image is so striking – so right – that it stops you in your tracks and runs like electricity from your head to your toes. That’s the power of poetry.
Poetic Lines is a half-hour show that explores the power of language with prominent area poets. Each episode focuses on some aspect of the creative process and the ability of words to challenge expectations, broaden perceptions, and illuminate the wonderful, mysterious world in which we live.
Like that idea but don’t enjoy poetry? Poetic Lines may change your mind. Host Elizabeth Lund is very adept at leading people from confusion to understanding and from “poetry’s all right” to “I love it.” Her perceptive questions and easy-going approach bring out the best in her guests as well.
Watch a few episodes and see for yourself how poetry can enrich your life. You may even start writing some lines of your own.
About Your Host
Elizabeth Lund was born to host Poetic Lines. That’s what many of her guests say after their interview has flown by in what feels like five or six minutes. We agree with that assessment, because Elizabeth is not just a poet, she’s a reviewer and a former journalist. Interviewing is in her blood.
In fact, you may have seen some of her poetry reviews, which regularly appear in The Christian Science Monitor. Elizabeth was a staff writer and editor for the Monitor for 13 years. During that time, she developed multimedia poetry projects, covered major events in the literary world, and profiled some of the nation’s best poets. For 10 years she also edited poetry for the paper’s literary section.
Journalism was a natural fit for Elizabeth, who knew from an early age that she wanted to be a writer. She earned her MFA in poetry from Cornell University, where she then taught writing for two years. She has since read and spoken at events from New Hampshire to Florida. A highlight of her literary career was reading as a Poet Among Us at the Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival, the largest poetry event in North America.
Poetic Lines is a wonderful showcase for Elizabeth’s many talents. We’re pleased that her print audience can now watch HCAM interviews and experience poetry in a whole new way.
