Typically, April is one of the busiest months in Hopkinton and this year, was no exception. As thousands of runners, spectators, and media descend upon the town for the start of the Boston Marathon, Hopkinton becomes the focal point in the week leading up to the race. For the 21st year, Elmwood School hosted several elite Kenyan runners for the Scholars and Stars event where students got a chance to interact with the runners. Tom Keane's third grade class performed in Boston at the Dinner With Champions sponsored by Run With Kenyans. And marathon team Dick and Rick Hoyt cemented their place in Hopkinton history before running in their 31st Boston Marathon with the unveiling of a bronze statue celebrating their "Yes You Can" attitude.
And although Marathon Monday started out like any other race day, Hopkinton came together in the days following the tragedy at the finish line to honor those affected by it, as well as to reflect upon the town's indelible connection to the race.
In school news, the boys track team finished April with a perfect 6-0 record. Four High School students were honored for their achievements and service to the community by the Women's Club. And Juniors completed their Local Government Project by interacting with local and state officials at the Student Government Breakfast.
Schools and town government also came together for the State of the Schools on the 9th, the Women's Club "Meet the Candidates Night" on the 24th, and the Chamber of Commerce sponsored State of the Town on the 25th.
