Author Michael Tougias Visits the Hopkinton Public Library

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

Imagine being trapped in a sailboat in the ocean during the middle of a hurricane, not knowing if you will ever be rescued? That is the subject of author Michael Tougias's book "A Storm too Soon" based on the true story of a 2007 Coast Guard rescue off the Gulf Stream. The book recounts the harrowing experiences of three sailors JP, Ben, and Rudy, who set off from Florida to cross the Atlantic in a 45 foot sailboat. The book's title refers to the fact that the three left in May, one month before the start of hurricane season.

Tougias was at the Hopkinton Public Library on Wednesday, February 6 for a presentation about his book. Before leaving, he also signed a book spine for the Heritage Quilt Project.

"A Storm too Soon" as well as many of Tougias's other books are available at the library to take out or can be purchased at major bookstores or online. Recently, Disney picked up the rights to his book "The Finest Hours" and he currently is working on a book about the sinking of the HMS Bounty during Hurricane Sandy.
