Baypath Humane Society

By Michelle Murdock, Freelance Writer

The Baypath Humane Society is a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter located on Rafferty Road in Hopkinton. Its mission is to facilitate the placement of stray and unwanted animals; to establish and maintain an animal shelter and associated procedures which promote the health, care and adoption of these animals; and to educate adopters and the local public on proper pet care and handling, over population and the prevention of cruelty to animals.

HCAM News recently visited the shelter to learn more about the adoption process. According to Shelter Manager Karen Elthier , the shelter has a strict adoption process which begins with a series of questions to determine compatibility between pet and owner. Once an appropriate match is made, an application must be filled out and references checked.

"Just to make sure that they are indeed capable of looking after an animal and giving it a good home," said Elthier.

The shelter currently has about 15 dogs, which is a low number, and between 15-20 cats available for adoption. If you are interested in adopting an animal, please contact Baypath for more information at 508-435-6938 or visit their website at
