Didgeridoo Down Under at the Library

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

What's that noise you hear? It's a didgeridoo...a hollow tubular musical instrument native to Australia. Performer Lindsey Dank was on hand at the library on August 3rd for his Didgeridoo Down Under show. The show is run by a group called Didg Revolution, which hopes to spread some Australian flavor to people across the U.S. Dank first started playing the didgeridoo 10 years ago, and was instantly hooked.

But the program is more than listening to Dank play his Didgeridoo. Dank spent much of his presentation teaching the eager kids about the native people and animals of Australia and the importance of respecting them.

Dank also encouraged the kids to get in on the action too by dancing and clapping along to the rhythm of the didgeridoo and drum, including brothers William, Christopher, and Thomas Johnson who shared a special connection to the program, as their mother is originally from Australia.

At the end of the program , the kids learned they could make their own didgeridoos as well by using basic household supplies such as wrapping paper rolls, or even old blue jeans. Dank hopes that the kids can weave some of the knowledge that they learned today into other parts of their lives.
