HCAM-TV to Produce Content on Educational Channel

By Michelle Murdock, Freelance Writer

Beginning this month, HCAM-TV viewers will have another channel to watch; HCAM-ED which airs on Comcast Channel 10 and Verizon Channel 31 and focuses solely on Hopkinton’s public schools.

Station Manager Jim Cozzens is pleased to announce the first new series created specifically for the channel, “The Principal’s Office” which is a monthly half hour TV show with High School Principal Alyson Geary.

Geary hopes the show will give her the opportunity to speak directly to the community to let everyone know some of the great things that are happening at the high school, as well as to increase the visibility of some of the specific programs offered at the high school.

According to Geary, the first show talks about some of the district-wide goals for the year as well as some of the high school improvement goals. Upcoming programs will highlight specific programs such as the new Mandarin Chinese offering at the high school, student activities, and classroom visits.

“I’ll be hitting on some topics that are important to me, as well as trying to get some other kids and teachers involved in the program as well,” said Geary in an HCAM News interview.

The first episode is currently airing. A schedule for all HCAM-ED programs will be available on a special section of the HCAM website.

“This is the first of what will be a string of programming, produced by HCAM, specifically on the educational system in Hopkinton,” said Cozzens.

In the future, Cozzens says he plans to expand this series to the other Hopkinton schools and is in the process of contacting the other principals.

“We are trying to raise awareness about a lot of exciting things going on the schools,” said Cozzens, “to bring a window into the school system.”

Cozzens said his vision for HCAM-ED is for his staff and facilities to work cooperatively with the administration, faculty and students of the school system to work on original programming.

“I think that just about everything that the students study and practice can be used in the creation of this valuable community resource,” said Cozzens. “It will be a tremendous opportunity to showcase their skills, put what they are learning on-air, and give them confidence and communication skills that they will take forward into their careers.”
