HHS Cheerleaders Prepare for Nationals

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

For the second year in a row and for the fourth time in five years, the Hiller Cheerleaders will compete at Nationals. On February 14th, the team will head down to CHEERSPORT in Atlanta Georgia to compete against a thousand top high schools and all-star teams from across the country.

At last year's Nationals in Orlando, the team placed 6th in their division and out of all the teams at the competition, were honored with the Best Sportsmanship Award.

To receive a bid to Nationals, the team received over 160 out of 200 at the State Championship. And with Nationals fast approaching, the team has been working hard to make this year just as successful.

And in order to foster the teamwork needed to successfully perform the pyramid, a stunt that the whole team participates in, the girls have developed a special bond with each other both on and off the mat.

Another way the girls spent time with each other was through organizing and running fundraisers to help finance their trip to Nationals. In the month of January alone, the team sponsored an all you can eat pancake breakfast at Applebee's, a pizza fundraiser at Papa Ginos, a spaghetti dinner at the Woodville Rod and Gun Club, and a clinic for aspiring cheerleaders. Thanks to community support, the team was able to raise the needed amount of money to make the trip official.

And as the captains' Hopkinton High cheerleading careers culminate, they know that there is a bright future ahead for the team.

This year, the team's performances on the 16th at 12:08pm and on 17th at 11:36am can be streamed live on dartfish.tv. Reporting for HCAM News, I'm Stephanie Kane.
