Hopkins Students Honor Veterans

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

Hopkins students did their part to learn about and honor those who served our country during a November 9th Veterans' Day assembly.

Speaking to the 4th and 5th graders, Marine Corps. Veteran and current American Legion Post Adjutant, Mike Whalen impressed upon the students what the holiday means to him and why it is so important to celebrate it. And to act upon Whalen's message, a moment of silence gave everyone an opportunity to reflect. Music teacher Craig Hay played taps. And the students recited the Pledge of Allegiance as well as sang the National Anthem. But the most poignant moments of the ceremony were when the veterans in attendance were honored; first, with a standing ovation in appreciation for their sacrifices, and then, with a handshake as the students and teachers exited the assembly by personally thanking the veterans.

HCAM's Mike Torosian took over 100 photos of the event, which can be viewed on the HCAM photo website Scene in Hopkinton.. The full Veterans Day assembly will be available shortly on HCAM-Ed, Verizon channel 31 or Comcast channel 96. Until then, enjoy the HCAM News video for a sneak peek.
