Hopkinton Little League Season Opens

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

The Hopkinton baseball season officially got underway, during the traditional Little League opening day ceremony held on Sunday, April 28th. The celebration kicked off with a parade down to Carrigan Park and featured an appearance by the Red Sox's own Wally the Green Monster. The ceremony recognizes all the hard work and dedication it takes to have a successful Little League program.

Watch the HCAM News video for highlights of the event, including recognition of the 9, 10 and 11 year old Tondorf teams, all who won in their respective age groups this past summer. Each team's batboy also received a special tribute.

With a surprise dance-off featuring six of the coaches, the festivities weren't just for the players. And after a first round elimination, three coaches were left to battle it out for first place.

The ceremony concluded and the 2012 season became official with three baseball traditions; the reading of the Little League Oath, the ceremonial first pitch which recognized the beginning of both the softball and baseball seasons, as well as the saying of the two most important words in the game of baseball: "Play Ball!"
