Hopkinton Remembers: 10th Anniversary of 9/11

By Michelle Murdock, Freelance Writer

This Sunday is the 10th anniversary of 9/11. American Legion Post Adjutant Mike Whalen invites all Hopkinton residents to gather at the Town Gazebo on Sunday night at 6PM for a brief memorial service; to remember and to honor those who lost their lives or their loved ones on that day.

The speaker for the event is veteran and former selectman Eric Sonnett. Music for the ceremony will be provided by Jack LeDuc. Taps will be played and representatives from both the Hopkinton Fire and Police Departments are expected to attend. Limited seating will be available, but the ceremony is only expected to be about 30 minutes in length so most of those attending should be able to stand.

In his interview at the HCAM Studio, Whalen says that as a parent and as a member of a veterans group, he feels that there is almost an obligation to have these types of ceremonies; especially for the younger generations that may not really be aware of what happened.

"It's important that we do this," said Whalen.

Listen to the HCAM News video as Whalen outlines the plans for the Sunday evening event.
