Wednesday marked an over 80-year old Hopkinton tradition, with the celebration of the annual 4th of July Horribles Parade. The parade was founded by Charles McIntyre, whose grandson, also named Charles, came in all the way North Dakota to serve as this year's grand marshal. Leading the parade alongside McIntyre, were several retired fire engines, including one from Springfield that the McIntyre's own. The goal of the parade, which features several floats that process from the common, is to have fun while parodying local issues that have recently effected the town. This year's theme centered around the revitalization of the downtown area. There was also a float celebrating another milestone, the 300th anniversary of Hopkinton. Another traditional aspect of the parade is the inclusion of water guns to help everyone get into the summer spirit.
