Join Cub Scout Pack 26!

By Michelle Murdock, Freelance Writer

The Law of the Pack says the Cub Scout helps the Pack go and the Pack helps the Cub Scout grow. Hopkinton's Pack 26 is trying to accomplish both of these goals as they kick off their fall recruiting effort with a Family Movie Night a the Mendon Drive-in on Friday, August 18th.

Weblo Ethan Ritterbusch stopped by the HCAM studio to talk about how much he enjoys scouting and encouraged other boys to join Pack 26.

“We're really trying to get new recruits for this year of Tiger Cubs," said Ritterbusch. "We need to keek this Pack running."

Ethan says there are a lot of fun things to do and tell us about one of his favorites.

“My favorite thing in cub scouting is earning the whittling chip which allows you to use a pocket knife," said Ritterbusch.

The Pack has a lot of activities planned for the upcoming year including a Fall Family Campout in October, Scouting for Food, overnight camping trips, geo - caching, the Blue and Gold banquet and family picnics.

At their regular den meetings, the boys work on badges and belt loops.

“At camp, I earned kickball, swimming, fishing and archery," said Ethan. "They are mainly for sports and other activites."

The Pack meets once a month on Friday nights at the Elmwood School cafeteria.

In October, they have a pumpkin carving contest.

"There are a bunch of categories like the most patriotic, the most cub scouty, the silliest and the most frightening," explained Ethan. "It's a lot of fun."

"You should really join Cub Scouts because we do all the fun activites," says Ethan, "We earn pocket knives, and its a good way to communicate with firends, learn skills, and at the same time, have fun."

New and prospective scout families are encouraged to attend the Family Movie Night at the Mendown Drive-in to learn more and to experience some of the fun firsthand.

The Family Movie Night is Thursday, August 18th at the Mendown Drive-in. Pack 26, new members and those interested in becoming members are all welcome and should plan to arrive by 6:30PM. The Box Office opens at 7PM. The cost is $20 per car, but Pack 26 will be picking up half the cost and providing hot dogs and paper plates. Each family should bring their favorite tailgating dish to share and their own drinks.

To reserve your spot, visit the Pack 26 website to RSVP.
