Little League Opens Season with Annual Parade

By Michelle Murdock, Freelance Writer

To kick off the spring baseball season, the annual Hopkinton Little League parade took place on Sunday, April 10th.

Led by special guest Wally the Green Monster, hundreds of Little League players made their way from the Town Common to Carrrigan Park where the opening ceremony was held.

"We celebrated our 55th year as a Little League chartered organization," said Hopkinton Little League President Mike Scire. "Each year we give out a Volunteer of the Year Award to one person that stands out to the League. We're going to give out one award this year. He' s the man behind every registration, every tryout, everything that happens behind the scenes; the website, everything. He just does a tremendous amount. I want to give out the 2010 Volunteer of the Year award this year to Dave Teitelman.

Also recognized at the event were the team members of last season's winning Tondorf team. Watch the video below as each player is introduced.

The sun was shining, the music was playing and getting an autograph from Wally the Green Monster was the goal of many of the players that day.

Hopkinton Little League President Mike Scire was happy with the weather and the turnout for the parade.

"It was a great turnout today, the weather was great," said Scire. "Wally from the Red Sox showed up. We had the boys and girls basketball team that we recognized. It was just really a great turnout from the town."
