Measuring Beyond the Classroom at Hopkinton High

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

Recently, High School students in Timothy Joyce's geometry class were assigned a task;to go around town and find the perimeter and area for everyday objects. The tricky part about the assignment is the fact that many of these types of objects are not regular shapes that can be easily measured such a square, circle or triangle.

Watch the HCAM News video with freshman Amanda Dings as she sets out to measure a stop sign. She decided that the easiest way to tackle finding its area was by breaking it down into smaller parts.

And listen to Joyce explain how he is teaching his students a lesson that will impact them beyond the classroom.

Editor's Note: Thanks to Amanda Dings for her work on this news segment and for the video.
