More Crafts at the Hopkinton Public Library

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

As part of the library's "Dig into Reading" summer theme, on August 12th, teachers Gretchen Stephan and Beth Newman from Whitehall Farm Studios came in to teach those in attendance about patterns in nature. The particular pattern that this activity focused on was spirals. One animal that fits the spiral pattern is a snail, which tied into the "Dig into Reading" motif. And to illustrate to those in attendance about the spiral pattern of a snail, the children made their own snails out of clay by rolling them out and then coiling them into a snail-like shape. They also had a chance to draw and color in their own spiral pattern inside an outline of a snail.
