National Honor Society Hosts Senior Tea

By Michelle Murdock, Freelance Writer

Continuing a tradition that allows students and senior to mingle and connect, members of the National Honor Society at Hopkinton High hosted their annual Senior Tea on Thursday, Tuesday, April 5.

Held in the high school cafeteria, seniors enjoyed a wide variety of baked goods, with entertainment provided by seniors Evan Katz and Peter Bransfield. The event was one of several service projects involving Hopkinton’s senior citizens. According to President Mitch Saeger, the society also participated in an MLK Day event where students held a luncheon for seniors. The group also cooked and delivered hot meals and helped with errands and snow shoveling during the winter months.

There are 160 students in the National Honor Society at Hopkinton High. While scholarship is one of the requirements for membership, service, leadership and character are the other three criteria considered for membership.

HCAM News spoke with Hopkinton resident Oscar Kamishlian as he mingled with the students at his table.

“I was talking to them about going to college,” said Kamishlian.

According to Hall, students often don’t realize how much they are going to learn at the Senior Tea.

“At the end of the day, they start telling me about the war stories they heard,” said Hall, “or what it was like when the seniors were growing up in Hopkinton. It’s a really good way for the two groups to connect.”
