New Hire Breakfast Welcomes New Employees

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

Town Manager Norman Khumalo, along with several other town employees, welcomed 5 new members to the town of Hopkinton team at a breakfast July 9th: Water & Sewer Technician for the DPW Jed Fenneuff, Custodian for the Police Department Harry Hamilton, Finance Director Chris Ketchen, Operations Assistant to the Town Manager Jamie Hellen, and Building Inspector for the Land Use , Planning and Permitting Department Mike Shepard. In total, the town's new hires have over 48 years working in public service.

As part of the welcome breakfast, new hires take part in a traditional ceremony called "muffining", where the previous new hire, in this case IT Director Chris McClure, tosses a muffin at the new hire as a symbol of both camaraderie and celebration. The idea for this ritual stemmed from human resource director Maryrose DeGroot, who was also celebrating her last day working for the town.
