In early September, Hopkinton welcomed in Sara Jordan to the community as the town's first female career firefighter.

Jordan, alongside the rest of the department, are constantly learning about new advances in equipment and training techniques. Recently, they received training on clearing the c-spine during car accidents and falls, a process to determine whether a victim has a spinal injury.

Not only is it important for the Hopkinton firefighters to stay up to date on the latest training techniques, but to educate the community as well. Every year during the beginning of National Fire Prevention Week, the department hosts an open house where community members of all ages can meet the firefighters, ask questions, and interact with the fire safety equipment. This year the event will be held at the fire station on Sunday October 6th at 11am.
