November was another busy month in Hopkinton. The month kicked off with the end of the election process with Congressional candidates Sean Bielat and Joe Kennedy making stops in Hopkinton. Kennedy ultimately won the seat, garnering 61% of the vote. In local government news, all 3 articles, including the Elmwood roof, were approved by voters at Special Town Meeting on the 26th.
November was also a month of firsts, including the first snowfall of the season on the 7th as well as the premiere of the HCAM live call-in show the Hop Seat the following night. Also, new episodes of the popular HCAM shows Physician Focus and Wake up and Smell the Poetry were filmed in the studio. There was also some new business news this month with the official grand opening of CrossFit Resilience gym on the 17th. And renovations on Old Town Liquors on Main Street were completed on the 27th. In other business news, Snappy Dogs food stand officially closed down for the winter months.
And as the Hiller's fall season winds down, many teams had a lot to celebrate. Both the girl's and the boy's Cross Country teams advanced to compete at All States on the 17th. Both teams had strong finishes, with the girls placing 6th and the boys getting 11th. The Cheerleaders came in second place at the South Regional Championship on the 11th, qualifying them for the state championship. The Seniors on the Football team capped off their successful 9-2 season during Senior night on the 9th, marking their last home game. And the girls proved that football isn't just a boys' sport during the 6th annual Powder Puff game on the 16th, in which the Seniors beat the Juniors for the 4th year in a row. Chick Welch Field was the setting for another football game on the day after Thanksgiving. The 11th annual tag football tournament known as the Turkey Bowl gives Hopkinton alumni a chance to have some fun while reconnecting with each other.
Besides turkey, Hopkinton residents had a lot to be thankful this month, including the sacrifices that veterans make. Hopkins School celebrated Veterans' Day with an assembly in which students got to personally say thanks to veterans. And the town honored it with a service at Town Hall. Hopkinton residents also got a chance to express other things that were grateful for during a blessing ceremony for the kickoff to ribbons of gratitude, sponsored by Water Fresh Farm.
