Student Run Turkey Drive

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

As Thanksgiving nears, several Hopkinton teenagers are carrying on a tradition that started 14 years ago by collecting turkeys and other Thanksgiving essentials for The Salvation Army and Project Just Because to give to area families in need.

The drive was started by Dan and Adam Merzel, family friends of this year's coordinators, Kasey Kramer and Drew Johnson. Kramer and Johnson started helping out with the drive when they were little. And when the Merzels got older, they passed along the tradition to Kramer and Johnson.

Volunteers spent the week of the 13th collecting turkeys, money, and nonperishable items from community members at a number of locations in town. Kramer's goal for this year was to surpass last year's total of 40 turkeys.
