Students at Center School Celebrate Reading

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

In order to complete their unit on Dr. Seuss, Jennifer Kane's 1st grade class and their parents dedicated March 22nd to celebrating the spirit of the popular children's author. The night kicked off at Bill's Pizza, where Kane treated many of her students to dinner for completing her "Green Eggs and Ham" challenge.

Then, back at Center School, the celebration of Seuss's legacy continued. The class acted out sthree of Seuss's books: "One Fish Two Fish", "Daisy Head Maisy", and "Happy Birthday to You", which paid tribute to Seuss's birthday earlier in the month.

And in the spirit of Dr. Seuss, Kane also gave the parents in attendance their own version of the "Green Eggs and Ham" challenge by having them read parts of the aforementioned book, that the challenge was inspired by, aloud with their children. The performances are part of a class activity called reader's theater, which allows Kane's students to develop critical language skills in a fun, approachable way.

Kane has implemented reader's theater in her class throughout the entire year, and sees a noticeable difference in her students' confidence .
