Tonight - Women's Club Sponsors "Emergency Preparedness - The 3 Key Steps"

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

The Women's Club will sponsor an event on October 15th about emergency preparedness. The program,"Emergency Preparedness - the 3 Key Steps", which will be held at 7pm at the Faith Community Church, will feature presentations by Hopkinton Fire Chief Ken Clark as well as Christopher Besse, Preparedness Coordinator at the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). The presentation will focus on what to do in an emergency situation, including preparation, the CodeRED emergency notification system, as well as the town's coordination.

As Hopkinton's Emergency Management Director, Chief Clark oversees Hopkinton's Emergency Management Group, which consists of several town officials. The group meets regularly to communicate, organize, and update emergency contingency procedures. He also communicates with emergency planners on a statewide level through MEMA. MEMA also helps the town develop and update its yearly emergency management plan.

Women's Club President Yvette Madany says that one of the goals of the Women's club is community outreach, and believes that this presentation fits perfectly into that objective.

The presentation is strongly recommended for all residents middle school aged and up, and will feature a question and answer session at the end. For more information about the town's emergency management plan including preparedness tips, visit the Hopkinton Fire Department's website.
