"Touch A Truck" Draws 150 Children

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

From fire engines, to sports cars, and from dirt bikes, to trucks, and construction vehicles, it was all on display for kids of all ages to interact with at the first annual Touch a Truck event on June 24th at Colella's Supermarket. Besides all of the different vehicles on display, there was also food and face painting. Proceeds from event, which was held by the Hopkinton Public Library Foundation (HPLF) and hosted by Colella's, benefited the library.

According to the Lindsay McDermott of the Hopkinton Public Library Foundation, the event achieved two goals. It raised over $1500 for the library expansion project and provided entertainment for over 140 children and their parents and grandparents.

"Touch-A-Truck could not have been possible without the generous support of many local businesses, residents, and government agencies" said Larry Barry. "The HPLF wishes to thank all those who made the event a huge success by donating their time and vehicles."

Those who donated their time and equipment included:

Norton & Haines Transportation, Weston Nurseries, Scott Septic, Inc., Scott's Landscaping, Inc., McIntyre Loam, Inc., R & D Tree Service, American Climbers, NStar Gas, W.J. Deiana & Sons, Capobianco Trucking, Robert Bartlett, the Mann Family, Mike and Gregg Sheldon, Tim Grady, and Hopkinton Department of Public Works, Hopkinton Fire Department, and Hopkinton Police Department.

HCAM's Mike Torosian took close to 200 pictures at the event, which can be viewed on the HCAM photo website Scene in Hopkinton.
