Troop 4 Pancake Breakfast

By Michelle Murdock, Freelance Writer

From young to old, pancakes were enjoyed by all at the Troop 4 Pancake breakfast held last Saturday at St. John’s Parish Hall. Whether you wanted just a few or a full stack, there were plenty of pancakes to go around. Parents with children, senior citizens and even one state official stopped by to help the scouts with their fundraising effort.

The chefs with their griddles were set up outside and the pancakes just kept coming. Plain or chocolate chip, Assistant Scout Master Peter Lahaie estimates that over 1,000 pancakes were served.

"We had a great turnout," said Lahaie. "Well over 500 people showed up for the pancake breakfast."

The pancake breakfast was sponsored by several local businesses, including E.L. Harvey, The Hopkinton Independent and Hopkinton Drug, who were designated as "Eagle Scout" sponsors. A poster showing all of the sponsors greeted guests on their way into the breakfast.

In addition to the breakfast, guests were also able to bid on a wide variety of silent auction items. Selectman candidate Frank D'Urso stopped by with his son and picked up some tickets.

"I won four tickets to the Boston Lobsters," said D'Urso. "I had a great time here at the breakfast this morning. I always enjoy coming here every year, it's a great event."

Proceeds from the breakfast will go to support the Troop's planned to Nantucket.

Lahaie says the boys will travel to Nantucket, will go deep sea fishing, biking, and sailing on Labor Day weekend.

"All kinds of fun stuff for the boys to really experience and develop their leadership skills," said Lahaie.
