Vehicle Identification Etching Program Nov. 6th

By contributor,

The Hopkinton Police Department, in conjunction with the Governor's Auto Theft Strike ofrce, a unit of the Massachusetts State Police, will be sponsoring an Auto Glass Etching Program on Saturday, November 6, 2010 from 9am to 2pm at the DPW garage on Fruit Street.

The glass etching entails chemically etching the car's vehicle identification number on all windows, including sunroofs and t-tops. The etching will entitle the vehicle owner to receive a 15% discount on their comprehensive auto insurance. You will be given a certificate to give to your insurance company. There is a one-time charge of $10 (cash only) for the etching that covers the Governor's Auto Theft Strike Force's expense for the program.

You do not have to be the owner fo the vehicle to have the car etched. However, you must have the vehicle's valid registratoin in order to participate in the program. The entire process should only take about 7 to 10 minutes from start to finish. No appointment is necessary. Etching will be done on a first come, first serve basis. You do not have to be a Hopkinton resident to participate.

For more information, call Hopkinton Police Officer Patrick O'Brien at 508-497-3401 or Program Coordinator Pamela Surette of the Governor's Auto Theft Strike Force at 781-393-1201.
