Video: Live 4 Evan 5K 2015

By Tom Nappi, News Director

The Live 4 Evan 5K was created in honor of Evan Girardi, who passed away at the age of 20 from an unknown underlying heart condition. Live 4 Evan was set up in his honor to help improve the quality of life for cardiac patients and their families. Recently the Live 4 Evan organization hosted their 3rd annual 5K and the event was once again a success.

One of the programs Live 4 Evan recently helped sponsor was free heart screenings at Hopkinton and Medfield High School. Cardiologist Dr. John Cadigan talked about how a routine heart check up helped discover an underlying heart condition his son had several years ago. He mentioned the routine EKG (Electrocardiogram) saved his life; "he was cleared to play sports, had no symptoms and the routine EKG saved his life."

HCAM news talked with Father of Evan, Michael Girardi, also Co-Founders of the Live 4 Evan organization Shane Lavoie, Whitney Mullen and Jack Nealon who discussed the many programs Live 4 Evan is involved in to help patients with a heart condition. Medical Device specialist Patrick Cusanelli, Cardiologist Dr. John Cadigan and member of a similar organization, Evan Ernst, discussed how they are working with Live 4 Evan.
