The School Committee narrowed down the search to fill the Principal position at Elmwood school to two candidates. Former Principal David Ljungberg left to take a position in the School administration central office in September. The two candidates include the current Interim Principal, Anne M. Carver and Kathleen Gerber, who is currently working in the Franklin school system.
Anne M. Carver started teaching straight out of college and taught in Worcester 26 years before coming to Elmwood. Carver taught Kindergarten though 2nd grade in Worcester. "As I finished my career in teaching, I had been encouraged to take on some leadership roles in the school." Carver served as the Assistant Principal for 2 years at Elmwood under David Ljungberg until taking over as Interim Principal this past September. At the candidates Q&A with the public, a couple parents of students referenced Carver taking over as Principal as "a seamless transition" and complimented her professionalism addressing situations with students.
Kathleen Gerber has taught in multiple states throughout her 27 year career including; Maryland, Texas, Arkansas and Massachusetts. Gerber has been with the Franklin school system for the last several years. Gerber began her career in Franklin as a Speech Language Pathologist and has been the Assistant Principal for the past 3 years. "The Elmwood job was appealing to me because it was a 2-3 building, I love 2nd and 3rd grade curriculum." Gerber also mentioned that much of the school improvement plan is very appealing to her; "the response to intervention process speaks near and dear to my heart, how do we differentiate instruction to make children successful. Also I've been working with writing trajectories and being able to talk about essential questions and that seems to align with your school improvement plan."
