Video: Natick Soldier R,D&E Presents Equipment Enhancements at Senior Center

By Tom Nappi, News Director

Chief of Public Affairs for the US Army Natick Soldier Research, Development & Engineering Center, David A. Accetta showed off some enhancements with Military gear at the senior center following the Veteran's monthly breakfast. Accetta is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army and served during a number of Military operations during the 2000's in the Middle East. Accetta showed off various body armor and helmets from throughout the years and pointed out various enhancements made leading to what is currently being used.

Accetta mentioned that a large variety of work is done at the research, development & engineering center; "we test equipment constantly, we do a lot of different work at the US Army Natick Labs". In addition to individual equipment for personal protection, the center does load carriage (backpacks), shelters, personal & cargo parachute systems and many other forms of equipment needed. One other piece of equipment the former Colonel showed off was a pair of sunglasses used to lessen the harm of lasers; "there is a sensor in the front and it protects against directed energy." The glasses are designed to figure out the point of impact and pixelate the laser to make it dark and take away the harm of the laser. Accetta mentioned that feedback from soldiers currently in the field and veterans is important in development; "we consider service members always service members and we value their opinions and value their experience."
