The Board of Selectmen honored Officer Pat O' Brien who is retiring after 32 years of service to the Hopkinton Police Department. Chief Edward Lee said at the meeting that Officer O' Brien is looked up to as a leader; "he's been looked up to as a leader, a mentor and has always been that voice of reason...someone like Pat cannot be replaced and we will certainly miss him."
Officer O' Brien stated he was very grateful that he got to spend 32 years working in Hopkinton; "I was very fortunate to land in Hopkinton, for 32 years I could not ask for a better town to work in or a better department to work for."
The Board of Selectmen also praised the retiring Officer O' Brien on his terrific career and "exemplary" police work. Selectmen Todd Cestari praised the attitude of Officer O' Brien; "youre an approachable person and that's important, I see the role of any law enforcement in any community being similar to that of a parent, people need to be intimidated when they do something wrong but you need to be approachable when nothings being done wrong and your an exemplary of that."
