Video Segment: Board of Selectmen Discuss Naming Public Assets

By Tom Nappi, News Director

The Board of Selectmen discussed a proposed policy for naming public assets such as buildings, parks, squares, streets and other forms of community property. Town Manager Norman Khumalo mentioned that naming Public Assets will only be done sparingly and for good cause. "The consideration for the town will be does the name serve the interest of the town and does it ensure a worthy and enduring legacy for the towns public assets."

The policy lists specific guidelines such as giving priority to names that have a geographic, historical or cultural significance to the town or have a civic or financial contribution to the town. Much of the discussion on the topic was about if names should be approved by a majority or super majority but the Selectmen approved the policy as amended.
