Video Segment: Hillers Baseball Prepares for Season

By Tom Nappi, News Director

The Hopkinton Hillers Baseball team spent the first few weeks of their season practicing in the High School Athletic Center. Most of the snow was cleared off the Baseball fields using Green Sand but still it's a bit too flooded to practice outside but Head Coach Jay Golden says the team has made the most of it. "Whenever you deal with the weather, it's something we can't control." Coach Golden was greatful too have the ability to come inside and use the entire field house, "we're fortunate to have the facility that we do..we just make the most of it... The Kids are working hard and that's all we can really ask for."

Golden stated that the team energy is as high as it's ever been and despite all the new faces, Golden is excited about the team he has for the upcoming season. Besides the new faces on the squad, another change this year is key offensive player and senior Matt Decina will be transitioned back to the infield. Decina played the Hillers outfield over the past 2 seasons but has plenty of infield experience starting for the Milford Legion Baseball team throughout the last few years.

Despite the rough weather through March, Coach Golden say's the team is ready; "you can get more of a realistic view of where you're at as a team on the field.. but in terms of installing what we need to do as far as first and third defense, bunt defense and first and third offense, we've had so much time inside that we've almost installed everything that we want to."

The Hillers season opens April 10th at Medway High School against Medfield, first home game is currently scheduled for Monday April 27th at 3:45 against Ashland.
